Ironbound Community Corporation

A 36’ x 16’ mural painted in Jersey City, New Jersey. The mural was funded by Ironbound Community Corporation for Resilient Northeastern New Jersey: an organization that helps residents in urban areas whose homes are affected by flooding and other environmental hazards related to climate change. The mural depicts two blended scenes; an urban street in Jersey City and a river in the nearby Catskill mountains, representing the close connection between urban areas and the natural landscapes that surround them, a connection that is often overlooked. It serves as a visual reminder of the delicate balance of nature that must be acknowledged and respected by humans if we wish to continue living on this planet. Nature is resilient and so are humans; we still have the power to make a difference and fight climate change. I worked with the Ironbound Community Corporation to engage community members during the process of creating the design, to help determine content and specific locations around Jersey City to feature. This mural was painted using a combination of Sherwin Williams acrylic latex applied with a paint roller and Montana 94 spray paint.
