WALLS ON WICOMICO

A 30’ x 14’ mural painted for Walls On Wicomico, a street art festival created by local artists in the Pigtown neighborhood of Baltimore, MD. The event started in 2020 and has since expanded to include both local artists and artists from other major cities around the country. This piece depicts two figures walking across an expanse of swamp land along Interstate 895 in Baltimore City to view a beautiful sunset behind a skyline of industrial wasteland. Among the power plants and power lines an ecosystem of native plants and animals continues to hold on. This piece is about nature thriving against all odds and those who find beauty in even the most seemingly unwelcoming locations, where nature combines with the urban landscape. This piece is part of an ongoing effort to document the uncharted territories of Baltimore City; the roads less traveled, the outskirts of reality, spaces filled with excitement, beauty and mystery. In addition to painting this mural I worked as an organizer for this event. My role included engaging with local business owners and community members to help determine locations and subject matter for all of the murals painted at the festival. Additionally I assisted with wall preparation and coordinating with artists about painting locations and other logistics. This mural was painted using a combination of Sherwin Williams acrylic latex applied with a Graco Quick Shot paint sprayer and Montana 94 spray paint.
